Hidden Lake Hike
Where:
- Hidden Lake
When:
- November 16, 2024
Who:
- Ed, Dave, Craig, Janet, Kardy, Neil, Oak
Trailhead:
- North Interlake Day Use Area
- head south on Highway 40 from the Trans Canada Highway for 50km
- turn right onto the Kananaskis Lakes Trail for 15 km, then turn left into the parking lot
- find the trail sign for Three Isle Lakes
- the trail parallels Upper Kananaskis Lake for 6 km until you cross a bridge and come to a large boulder where you turn right
Degree of difficulty:
- 300 meters
- 14 km round trip
- fairly easy hike on a well groomed trail until you turn away from the lake for the last km on a single track trail
- the hike took us 3.5 hours
Interesting notes:
- this was our first time doing this trail (our 13th new trail of the year)
- we had a sunny day that allowed for beautiful 360 degree views of the surrounding Kananaskis Valley
- Kardy told a story about a friend whose Italian father was allowed to gain Canadian citizenship during WW2 (1942) by cutting down trees for one year to build Upper Kananaskis Lake and two dams (Kananaskis Main Dam and Intake Dam)
- the area is surrounded by Mt. Indefatigable, Sarrail Mountain, Mt. Northover, Mt. Lyautey and many other mountains across the valley
- Hidden Lake is presumably named because it is hidden in behind Upper Kananaskis Lake
