Haffner Creek Ice Falls Hike

Where:

  • Haffner Creek Ice Falls

When:

  • February 11, 2022

Who:

  • Ed, Marilyn, Gerard, Carolyn

Trailhead:

  • from Calgary, head west and take the Highway 93 turnoff towards Radium for 19 km
  • the parking lot is on the left (east) side of the highway just past the Marble Canyon parking lot
  • from the parking lot take the trail across Haffner Creek and turn right to follow the trail through the Marble Creek campground and along the left-hand side of the creek

Degree of difficulty:

  • 100 meters elevation gain
  • 2.4 km round trip
  • the hike took us one hour
  • the trail was packed down, but we had grippers which were very helpful, especially when you entered the canyon
  • there is not much elevation, so it’s a relatively easy hike

Interesting notes:

  • this is a great short hike to break up the drive to or from the Windermere Valley
  • the ice falls are spectacular, especially when the sun is shining into the canyon to showcase the deep blue hues
  • this area is one of the most popular ice climbing areas in the Bow Valley
