Pincushion Mountain Hike
Where:
- Pincushion Mountain Hiking trail
- Peachland, BC
When:
- September 30, 2018
Trailhead:
- 30-40 minute drive south of Kelowna on Highway 97 (painful to get thru West Kelowna)
- need to wind your way up a steep hill on Ponderosa Drive
- not a very well-marked trail in places as we made one wrong turn on the way up and one wrong turn on the way down
Degree of difficulty:
- 3.4 km round trip
- 246 meters elevation
- not a long hike as it is only an hour to an hour and a half up and back
- some steeper and rocky sections that are tricky especially on a rainy day like we had
Interesting notes:
- named after a wildfire that wiped out the mountain in the 19th century leaving only snags that looked like pins, this mountain provides excellent views of the city and Okanagan Lake
- beautiful views at the top of Lake Okanagan and the surrounding area
- nice forest of Ponderosa pine trees covered in moss and some nice rock features
- our loaner pup for the day (Luca) enjoyed the journey given the drive from Kelowna and the short hike, it would make sense to tag on a stroll and bite to eat in Peachland
